Writings is hard getting published is even harder. Publishers and agents at least the reputable ones want authors who have some previous writing credits to their name something to set them apart from the hundreds of other query letters sitting in their slush pile. That’s not to say you can’t get published without credits to your name it’s like everything else in life if you’re already successful it easier to be more successful. Opportunities breed more opportunities.
After my latest short story didn’t make the cut for the writers of the future competition I began to think what can I do with this story, do people still publish short stories? You hear about short stories winning awards but I’ve never really seen any publishing venues. So I went to work trying to find places that buy I only knew of one off the top of my Tor.com. But fortunately google was my friend and quickly pointed me to SFWA the Science Fiction and Fantasy writers of America website who had a helpful list of venues that considered approved publishers for short stories. To help myself and all the other aspiring science fiction and fantasy writers out there I’ve transcribed their list along with links to the submissions guidelines, the story requirements, and payment information. Remember to read through the guidelines and actually read the magazines so you know what they are looking for before submitting.
I’ll be putting an effort into submitting some stories, and maybe even try the writers of the future completion again before the September 1st deadline hits. That’s on top of finding time to finish my second book, my novella, building my website, and finding a job and new apartment. There just aren’t enough hours in the day.
Also reading through some of do not send lists makes we wonder why everyone hates Time Travel stories and not knowing the protagonist name? What’s wrong with time travel stories an intriguing one is hard to find but that no reason to reject the whole sub-genre.
