Thief’s Magic by Trudi Canavan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I’ve devoured my way though all of Trudi Canavan and I think this maybe my new favourite.
Theif’s Magic explores the lives of two very different characters in two very different worlds and the attitudes and use of magic in those. In one a young sorcery and archaeology student is hoping to end up with a cushy teaching job in city where technology and machines are driven by magic. The discovery of living book is leads to scandal that causes his life to unravel.
The other character is a young woman who lives a world were magic is considered a terrible sin and those that practice it are taken away to some unknown fate. Destined to be married off as way for her family to improve their social standing her life takes a very different path after a fateful encounter with an artist one day.
A fun and interesting read with well developed characters and excellent world building. Trudi Canavan’s work keeps getting better.
