The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
They should really think of changing the title of this book to the ‘Stupidest Girl in Coldtown’ Because throughout the course of this book the main character does nothing but make bad decisions and then complain that she keeps making bad decisions. I was expecting her to be more buffyish and take charge and not just dumb and annoying. This novel is filled with all your standard vampire clichés and tropes, so if you are looking for something new and original then you had better look elsewhere.
This was a tough read. There are some badly worded and awkward sentences at the beginning and it can be difficult going at times because the main girl will annoy you constantly.
The two main characters Tanya and her ex-boyfriend start off well written and developed but they get progressively more unrealistic as the book goes on. The rest of the characters are all the standard one dimensional over exaggerated horror types. The villains are all ruthless and unredeemable, the good guys honest and virtuous.
Overall I’d give this book a miss unless you are really looking for a teeny vampire book.
My Rating 1.5 out of 5
